Welcome Gracie...The Birthday Gift

Gracie and Daddy will just have to a share a birthday! What a rare gift to welcome a baby on your birthday. She was born at 11:12PM on August 9th, 2010. We were told to expect here to be a little "blue" upon arrival and she may have been for the first minute or so, but she was really looking good when her mommy got to hold her a few minutes later. Right now she's being tested and we are waiting to here the results of the tests being done on her heart. Annie is healthy and of course tired, but most of all we are thankful to God for our little Gracie.

Congratulations! We're praying for you and especially for Gracie's heart. Also, I know the NICU nurses are probably great, but if they're not, don't be afraid to assert yourselves. Sometimes they get busy and forget to tell parents about changes in the baby's feeding schedule or tell you when the dr. comes to check on the patient, etc. but be assertive and make sure they know you want to know EVERYTHING! Also, if you don't like a nurse, ask for a new one. It's totally within your rights as the parent to get the best nurses, and they can shift assignments to meet YOUR needs. One more thing, NICU nurses like to "cluster" their care so that the baby gets a lot of rest time in between being disturbed. They may not want you to touch and hold Gracie when she's sleeping peacefully, and there are some good reasons for that, but again, you're the parents, so do what feels best to you!! If you have any other questions about dealing with nurses, let me know.
